Shirley Moore is a professor of history at California State University, Sacramento, with specialties in African-American history, Western U.S. History and oral history. She has worked on the CSUS Underground Railroad Digital Archive project http://digital.lib.csus.edu/curr/, an online archive from California State University, Sacramento which seeks to provide insight into the challenges blacks faced in California of the 1800s. She is also the author of To Place Our Deeds The African American Community in Richmond, California, 1910-1963 and African American Women Confront the West, 1600–2000. In this lecture Professor Moore will discuss the life experiences and legacy of African American women in the West.
